From regular school runs to continental tours or special sports events, choosing an appropriate TV compilation or new DVD release for passengers is a great way to give 'added value' to the ticket price.
Most people are unaware that pre-recorded DVDs, Videos or internet downloads are released by the copyright owner for private domestic use only. Showing these copies in any other situation requires permission via licence as per the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988.
Traditional license systems offer a pay as you show cost 'per title' and require rental of a special studio copy. This is expensive and difficult to administer, especially for passenger transport fleets travelling nationally and internationally.
In 1986, MPLC USA created a simple alternative solution called the MPLC Umbrella Licence® and launched it to the coach market in Europe in 2003. Three of the four major Hollywood Studio groups, plus a growing list of over 300 premium independent film producers now give their exclusive rights to UK coaches via the MPLC.
Unless your company has an MPLC Umbrella Licence for coaches, you cannot show home entertainment DVDs from any of these studios and producers. The MPLC Member Coach Licensees may show licensed movies from the tens of thousands of titles from over 425 major Hollywood studios and independent film producers.
There is a low, annual rate per vehicle or a simple 'fleet rate' for larger operators. All licenses are available at a discounted rate if your company is a member of recognised trade associations across Europe.
